The Youth Story Project Iinc. is a dynamic filmmaking and screenwriting initiative with locations in Richmond Hill and Jamaica, Queens, NY, empowering young people from low-income families in marginalized communities to express themselves through storytelling and create films that drive social change.
We provide an easy-learning supportive environment where underrepresented emerging filmmakers and storytellers can develop their creative vision, learn, be seen, and work collaboratively on film projects while gaining confidence, skills, access to resources and gain hands-on film production experience.
The Youth Story Project proudly stems from the
vibrant Indo-Caribbean and Caribbean Community in New York.
We provide free on-site filmmaking and screenwriting workshops and mentorship for youths, assisting each participant in creating and developing their stories from conception to final product. We involve youths in screenwriting contests with peers, host filmmaking competitions where the winner receives prizes and public community screenings for their films. We work closely with youths to produce their short film projects and support each participant with festival submissions for their projects via FilmFreeway (www.filmfreeway.com, with industry professionals, ensuring a wider audience.
We aim to bridge the gap in access to resources, funding, equipment usage, and mentorship that often hinders young, underserved people in overlooked communities the ability to pursue their passion for filmmaking and screenwriting. Through screenwriting workshops and hands-on film production experience, we thrive to empower our participants to overcome challenges and showcase their work to the world, gaining exposure and confidence, leaving a positive impact on their mental health.
By participating in The Youth Story Project, young people will:
If you are a youth in need to navigate your mental health on the right path, build self-esteem, structure, and core values in storytelling, The Youth Story Project is the safe space for you to create. If you want to tell stories via film but have no idea how and where to start, or lack resources, The Youth Story Project welcomes you on your new journey.
If you are a youth with a big imagination and have a passion for film, storytelling, or even just to learn on-set, The Youth Story Project is your sanctuary.
The Youth Story Project is led by Film Directors, Screenwriters, Producers, Actors, and Creators. Our team is dedicated to providing a platform for youths in our community to tell their stories and share their vision to the world, preserving art and culture, strengthening the children of the future.
